Jill Duggar

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar could not be classified as “normal” homeschooling parents, especially because they have nineteen children. However, their children have much to share on why they are grateful for the way their parents have taught them at home. Jill (far left) has a passion to communicate principles her parents have used that really have made the difference in her life.

He was also involved in developing curriculum for family camps, youth camps and follow-up ministries. Larry is a former research assistant and writer for the Institute in Basic Life Principles. He has worked on such publications as Character Sketches Volumes III and IV and the Eagle Story. He also wrote science and medical curriculum materials for the Institute's home education program, The Advanced Training Institute of America. Wood Duck/Crayons

Speaker(s):
Dr. Larry Guthrie
To obey or not to obey…that is the life and death question that confronts each and every young wood duck. And it confronts each and every one of our sons and daughters as well. Learn how adult wood ducks teach their offspring to recognize their "voice" and "desire" to obey instantly and cheerfully. Listen to the humorous story of a young man (Dr. Guthrie will not say who he was) who failed to obey his father's voice and suffered the grave consequences. The session will focus on training children to be obedient with a smile on their face.

This session will focus on dealing with irritations and overcoming obstacles.

Speaker(s):
Dr. Larry Guthrie
Would you like your children to be more attentive? Have you ever said to a son or daughter, "Look at me when I am talking to you!”? Do distractions waste your time? If you answered "yes" to any of the above, this session is for you. Dr. Guthrie will illustrate ten steps that will lead your whole family toward being more attentive to one another. He will use a number of volunteers to graphically portray each principle by constructing an attentive ear. This session will focus on issues of attentiveness.

Speaker(s):
Dr. Larry Guthrie
Psalm 127 tells us that our children are like arrows in the hand of a mighty man. These arrows are intended to be cast forth to Hit the Mark. Watch as Dr. Guthrie illustrates seven principles that govern the flight of an arrow and direct the path of our sons and daughters. He will pop seven balloons with his new Mathews compound bow, one balloon for each principle. In an exciting conclusion to the lesson he will attempt to Hit the Mark by shooting an apple off someone's head. The session will focus on key issues of parenting.

Lions and Fatherhood

Speaker(s):
Dr. Larry Guthrie
The key to a successful pride of lions lies with the "King of Beasts" himself. Without him a pride may fail to raise even a single cub to maturity. With him present and actively involved a pride may raise 40-50 cubs to maturity over his life span. Dr. Guthrie will present striking similarities between the fathers of successful homeschool families and those of the "big daddy" lion. This session will focus on issues of fatherhood.

Knives Galore

Speaker(s):
Dr. Larry Guthrie
"If you aren't content with what you have, you won't be content having what you want." Dr. Guthrie knew this important principle as a child, but apparently it did not do him much good. He will bring a few of the more than 200 knives he has displayed in his home in Pigeon Falls, WI. After presenting this lesson at one conference a lady approached him with a question. "Are you saying that if I am not content with the man I married, I'll not be content with the man I want?" Apparently she got the message.

Speaker(s):

Peter reminds us that Satan prowls this earth looking for those whom he may devour. In a sense he is looking for back straps for his frying pan and trophies to hang over his fire place. Listen to several adventure stories of how Satan uses the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and pride of life to ensnare his prey. Then watch as Dr. Guthrie illustrates the seriousness of temptation with a "good ole egg" that fails to resist. The session will focus on issues of temptation and repentance.

Now known as Incredible Bats, they have been educating the public about the benefits of bats with the use of live Egyptian Fruit Bats. They have reached a large audience across the Midwest dispelling the myths of these incredible creatures. Sharon is a public school teacher/librarian with a Masters of Education degree. Dan has served as a teaching elder at a small Chicago area church for many years. Early on, Dan realized that instead of merely giving secular talks about bats, these incredible creatures could be used for a creation ministry. So, along with secular venues, Dan has taught in churches, Bible camps, homeschool groups and creation seminars.

Speaker(s):
Kevin Swanson
What is it about home education that has profoundly reenergized education and produced such outstanding academic results? Incredibly, the average homeschool 8th grader without teacher-credentialed parents tests four grade levels above the national average on nationally standardized tests, and it is not because we have taken a public school system complete with desks and bolted them to the floor of our living rooms. In this visionary, ground-breaking presentation on the homeschool vision, Kevin presents the basic elements that make up an outstanding homeschooling experience for your child.

Speaker(s):

Homeschooling is the most powerful form of education rediscovered in the modern age. Its power and success is unquestioned. Yet for most home educators, the principles that worked in home education are not transferred into post-secondary education. Cutting edge visionaries are bringing a Copernican revolution to the method of higher education in the form of mentorship. If our movement takes this next step, we will make far greater impact on the way we do post-secondary education and economics, than we have seen in K-12 education.

Making a Man: What to do with Boys Ages 15-25

Speaker(s):
Kevin Swanson
Forty years ago, 70% of men reached manhood by 30 years of age. Now, a bare 33% of men would meet the qualifications of maturity. For men who are 25-35 years of age, they earn less than women, and their earnings have dropped 20% adjusted for inflation since 1970. Can we expect anything better for the young men we are raising in our homes today? Kevin Swanson addresses the most serious social problem facing our nation as well as the homeschooling movement in this talk. How do we take a 15 year old boy and make a man out of him? If you have a son, this talk is for you!
